Hotel Karólína is a boutique hotel located in the old town of Stykkishólmur on the Snaefellsnes peninsula. The hotel is conveniently located within short walking distance of all the town’s main attractions. Karólína is the sister hotel of its next-door neighbor, Hotel Egilsen, where our guests are welcomed and checked in.

A house with a history

Hotel Karólína is located in “Sýslumannshúsið” (“House of the District Magistrate”), a historic house built in 1896 by a local doctor who resided on the upper floor and practiced medicine on the ground floor. Starting in 1931, the house served as the office and residence for numerous town’s District Magistrates, up until the year 2000, when the office was moved to a new building. A few families lived in the house during the first two decades of the millenninum, until we moved in.

Beautifully Designed

Hotel Karólína has eight double rooms, split between two floors. The rooms on the ground floor are all recently renovated and the rooms on the second floor belong to the beautiful old house. All rooms have a private bathroom, brightly lit and equipped with a good overhead shower.

We are very proud of our delicious and healthy breakfast that seems to please everyone.


All rooms are equipped with a coffee machine and complimentary coffee. There is a living room on the ground floor available for all our guests to enjoy at their convenience.

Check-in is at Hotel Egilsen

Before your arrival at Hotel Karólína, make sure to check in at Hotel Egilsen at Aðalgata 2, where you will be welcomed with a warm cup of coffee or tea, or a refreshing drink on a warm day. The staff will give you your room key and guide you to Hotel Karólína.
